Just the Facts and some SNL Therapy

"The ads are fast, furious, and factually flimsy."

Who's the bigger liar? I welcome proof otherwise, but McCain seems to be in the lead. Apparently reading my mind, SNL tries to make me feel better by putting a positive spin on McCain's ever-growing body of lies:

  1. I agree that McCain wins in this category. Although, I'm starting to think that Obama isn't far behind. During the primaries, I felt Obama was the most honest and moral person in the race. I must concede that I'm no longer sure that was accurate. Moral, yes. (McCain, not so much.) But the hotter the campaign gets, the more I've been very disappointed with how Obama has conducted himself. But if we are forced to compare, McCain is probably more prone to misleading than is Obama.

  2. It does seem like Obama has gotten worse over time... some pundits suggest that he has to in order to win... I don't know. I'm sure it will get worse on both sides as the election gets closer, which is so frustrating. The whole country goes up in arms when Bill lies about not having sex, but our candidates lie all the time and we don't care? Perhaps we do care but there is no other option. Does one have to be under oath to be held accountable for telling the truth?

Misleading ads (as they both have put out) are frustrating, what bothers me even more are things like McCain getting asked directly about something and him responding with no comment or denial. Aggh.

  3. One more thought--I don't know if it is even possible to run for POTUS , and win, and be completely honest. That is a sad thought.

  4. The experts and the pundits have told us that Americans respond to and remember negative messages, more so than positive. McCain's attacks on Obama forced his hand to get negative and down. You are right, you cannot be elected CiC of TUS without getting nasty.

In the end aren't we to blame for the messages that reach us?

  5. If you think this is nasty - or that negative campaigning has gotten worse over time, you should read some of the stuff that was said in the early- and mid-1800's.

  6. OCNS - I've heard that before... the negative stuff doesn't bother me as much as the explicitly dishonest stuff, a la McCain saying "They are not lies" about his ads, or denying he knew anything about FactCheck when confronted, etc. Then again, maybe he really doesn't know anything about websites, as he is just learning to use the interwebs, which is a fact he admitted.
