My (and Senator Hatch's) socialist tendencies exposed

I can't say I was surprised at the S-CHIP veto, but it was disappointing. Does anyone know how many more votes they need for an override? I promise I'm not a socialist, but sometimes it feels like it. Hmmm. Take money from cigarette buyers and give it to insurance companies, and more kids get healthcare. Hmmm. Crazy idea. What do conservatives really have against it? Are all federal programs considered to be socialist? Public schools, interstate roads, NCLB...wait! NCLB is a federal program, started by Bush--so does that make Bush part-Socialist? Maybe the conservative states (sorry, Utah) should just drop out of the Union entirely and enjoy local government while the rest of our children (dang, that doesn't include my state) can enjoy these liberal health care programs.

  1. I would harangue your site, but there is no one here. Now I'm looking up what a shenpa is.

On the Mormon thing, I grew 10 minutes from Brighams' birthplace, 40 minutes from Joes'. Vermont that is, and let me tell ya, the story about Joe, varies from the Utah version.

I usually can get Mormons off my door step in about a minute when I feign interest and then ask them to explain Joes' penchant for pedophilia. Damn money digger, didn't much like physical work, not that I do. cheers glenn

  2. Hey thanks for stopping by. I am honored to have a comment from outside my faithful 5 or 6. I do regret that I don't have a big enough audience to suit your haranguering, if that's what you meant. When I was about 12 or 13 I had a site and somebody told me it sucked. I pretty much got over it then. : )

And if you really want to talk Mormon history, I'm game.

  3. Just a quick thought on Socialism. One dictionary defines it as "a theory or system of social organization that advocates the vesting of the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution, of capital, land, etc., in the community as a whole" which, depending on exactly how you interpret this, could mean that yes, any federal program is socialism. I honestly don't think that socialism is always a bad thing, we just have to identify when it works and when it doesn't. Just a thought.

I haven't followed the s-chip thing much, so I'm gonna have to do more research on that before I know if I think it would have been good or not. Doesn't sound bad on the surface though.

I appreciate your thoughts on that--it is very refreshing coming from an economic conservative.
