not the same

I just found out one of my clients passed away.

He was my age, but knew a lot more of the nature of suffering. Constant pain, all kinds of illnesses; one left him paralyzed. Had only been in for one session, depressed. “I still go fishing, but it’s not the same.”

  1. I'm sorry bubba.

Life sometimes seems too hard for people, and I wonder how I got so lucky to have the life I do...

  2. Bless your heart. I've had that happen and it always provoked a moment of introspection and thought.

  3. Who can say what image will emerge as anyone's threads are woven into the tapestry we claim as life? For some the image is beautiful, full, and complete. Sadly, for others it is bewildering and lacking order. We do accept that God, who is the master weaver, will be merciful and make something beautiful one day for those who had so little of life's joys here.

  4. You will continue to see clients, but you will not be the same.

The need to help people heal, in their hearts and in their minds, is more common than we know; and the need is desperate.

Let this motivate you to dive in with all your ability, to do all you can to help your Father's children. You may not save a lot, but maybe you can save one or two (or more.....). Every one is precious.

  5. Thanks for your thoughtful comments, everyone. They are much appreciated.

One of the difficult things right now is I don't know exactly how he died... and probably will not ever know, as it's not my business anymore. Although, I don't know if it matters one way or the other to me (whether he ended it or one of his diseases did), I am relieved for him. The family is having a "celebration of his life" in lieu of a "funeral" which, I think, reflects on their beliefs and attitude well.

I don't know if I will go to it, but I am going to send them a note.
